Laubade

Château de Laubade

For the past three generations, the Lesgourgues family has managed to make Château de Laubade an undisputed benchmark in the Armagnac category. As a result, it is both the leading and the most awarded Armagnac brand.

It is composed of 105 hectares of vines in the best terroir of Bas Armagnac of fawn-coloured sands and “boulbènes”.

Between 400 and 600 ewes are scattered in the vines each year, from October until May, to produce the necessary fertilising for the sustainable agriculture put in place at Laubade for the last 30 years.

Laubade uses its own still pot (alambic), which guarantees the best autonomy to distil all the wines on the spot, at the best time and grape variety by grape variety.

The Cellar Master of Laubade ages the spirits vintage by vintage using more than 2,800 barrels of 400 litres each, displayed in 7 ageing cellars. This inventory, certainly the most important in the Armagnac region, is vital to produce the best spirits.

For the manufacture of the barrels (about 100 pieces a year), the very best quality of oak is used, with a careful selection of trees, and with a controlled drying of the plants on site before the coopering by our own cooper.

The oldest armagnacs, distilled before 1930 are kept in “Dames Jeanne” (known also as Demi Johns), in a room called: “Le Paradis” (Heaven).
