The Chardonnay Original Vines is a barrel selection. Since each barrel ferments with its own yeast and ages at its own rate, each barrel becomes very distinct. Before bottling, Jason tastes each barrel. Those barrels which speak to the longest aging potential become the Original Vines Reserve.
The Chardonnay Original Vines Reserve has a gorgeous bouquet with scents of honeycomb, citrus fruit, wet wool and minerals that for me demonstrate a little more precision than its 2014 counterpart, at least at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with finely tuned acidity, hints of brioche, Conference pear, a dab of lemongrass and a poised, tensile finish. This is an outstanding Chardonnay from winemaker Jason Lett. --WA
