Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Désirée

Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Désirée

Wine Information
Size: 0.43 ha (1.06 ac)
Variety: Chardonnay
Vine Age: Planted in 2008.
Terroir: Parcel known as les Petures (or Plures), east-facing, minimal slope, thick red clay soil.
Viticulture: Organic (certified), biodynamic
Vinification: Whole-cluster pressing, indigenous yeast fermentation in barrel, acking after malolactic. Aged for 18-22 months, blending in tank, light fining if necessary.

In the vineyards, the rootstock is a mix of massal (60%) and clonal (40%) selection. This terroir is perfect for Pinot Noir, which explains why most of the neighboring parcels are planted with that variety. However, this is a Chardonnay, making it a rare find.

The name for this cuvée, Désirée, comes from an old cadastral (land registry) appellation which was eliminated in 1973. The domaine is legally allowed to use this name on their labels thanks to precedence: they have been labeling wine from this parcel under the name Désirée since the late 1800s.
