Domaine Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos La Néore

Domaine Edmond Vatan Sancerre Clos La Néore

Wine Information
The Domaine Edmond Vatan is located in the small village of Chavignol in the county of Cher. The domaine produces « le Clos de la Néore », probably the most sought-after wine in Sancerre appellation… and also the most confidential ! Only 4.000 bottles are produced per year, to be relativized depending on climatic conditions to which the domaine is deeply attached. That is to say that being lucky enough to get a taste of these crus is all about privilege. You will furthermore find very few info on the Domaine Edmond Vatan : confidential, we said. Confidential and also singular. The vines are planted on kimmeridge, a stratigraphic subsoil dating back from Late Jurassic ! This clay-limestone soil rich in sea-shells fossils provides a mineral salinity on the finale. A singularity that’s been well leveraged by the Vatan family.

One hectare. No more and no less. One facing south parcel located at Monts Damnés. An outstanding terroir through the incomparable richness of its soil : conditions are optimal and allow the Sauvignon to remarkably be developed. It’s indeed an understatement to say that the Vatan family has one true high-end know-how. Edmond first, who paved the way for a virtuosity that never left the family business. Then came Anne, the daughter, yet archeologist until 2008. She was not allowed to prune back in the days and now she’s in charge of the production. The result is exactly the same : elegant and gorgeous wines. A more than honorable result for Anne who admits she “still has a lot to learn, especially when it comes to the vine”.
