Wine Information
Located in Yamhill-Carlton AVA, on the same hillside as Roots Estate Vineyard and at an elevation of 275 to 400 feet, Saffron Field vineyard was established in 2007. It is owned by Sanjeev Lahoti and Angela Summers. The soil –  sandy, silty loam on sedimentary bedrock – provides ideal growing conditions for the Pommard clones.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for 18 months in barrels: 50% new Mercurey, 25% Tonnellerie DeFerrari, 25% neutral. 13.9% alcohol. 98 cases produced.
“Dark red. Sexy, oak-spiced red and dark berry scents are complemented by suggestions of cola and floral oils. Smoky and expansive on the palate, with a jolt of tangy acidity enlivening the juicy black raspberry and spice cake flavors. Smoothly plays power off of vivacity and finishes sweet, velvety and very long, with fine-grained tannins showing up late.” —Josh Raynolds
