Serge Dagueneau et Filles

Serge Dagueneau et Filles

Serge Dagueneau and his daughters are the uncle, and cousins, respectively, of Didier Dagueneau. Serge’s two daughters, Florence and Valerie, are two hard-working, serious young vigneronnes, and I think, are the prime reasons that this domaine is now starting to appear on many of the top wine lists in France.

The vines for the cuvee Les Pentes are situated on the marno-calcaire soil nearest Pouilly (compared to the flint—Silex—soil of St Andelain). The yields here, they limit to between 48 and 55 hl/ha. Serge, Florence and Valerie are also proponents of harvesting late, and their Les Pentes is marked by a distinctly ripe-tasting, rich, melony quality which comes from Sauvignon on calcaire soil, when harvested at its peak of maturity. Very appealing.
