Domaine Bachey-Legros Santenay Clos Des Hates Vieilles Vignes

Domaine Bachey-Legros Santenay Clos Des Hâtes Vieilles Vignes

Wine Information
"Les Hates" is one of the best terroirs in Santenay village.  We could discuss its ranking for hours, so close is it to a premier cru; close both in geography, since it is literally surrounded by Santenay Premiers Crus, and also quality.  Our plot is in the heart of the Les Hates climat, in Le Clos.
The fact that the vines grow in an enclosed clos gives this unique wine all its particularity and specificity.  The vines are protected and the soil subjected very little to erosion, on well-drained, rather calcareous land on a gentle slope.  The terroir has therefore kept all its intergrity, and the old vines, planted in 1935, are perfect in getting the best from it.  They have maintained an exceptional state of health and their yield self-regulates quite naturally.  When harvested, the grapes show lovely concentration, with a lot of different sized, millerande berries.  Our Clos des Hates has a strong personality, with good minerality, with tannins that are pure bred from the beginning.  On the nose, this wine does a balancing act between the depth of fully ripe black fruits and the freshness of red fruits, with lovely hints of spice.
